“Draft the opening section — rough is fine.”

Welcome back. You noticed the drift — that’s the skill. Pick up where you left off.

The problem

Productivity tools measure work. Few help you through it.

Starting is hard. Staying with something is harder. Most tools respond by tracking more — minutes, streaks, dashboards — which turns your attention into a scoreboard and quietly adds pressure to the exact moments that need less of it.

What many of us actually need at the hard moments is what a good coach provides: help naming the next small step, permission for the work to be imperfect, and a kind, structured way back when attention drifts. That gap — between tracking effort and supporting it — is the space Sparkline explores.

The idea

A calm coach, not another taskmaster

Sparkline is built around the three moments where focus actually lives or dies: starting, returning after distraction, and closing with reflection. Guided sessions help you begin; a gentle audio coach keeps you company without hovering; a short reflection turns each session into evidence that your effort is adding up.

The goal isn’t to maximise focused minutes. It’s to help you relate to effort with more patience, encouragement, and self-awareness — so the minutes take care of themselves.

The experience

What Sparkline is made of

Focus sessions

Guided blocks of deep work with a clear intention set before the clock starts — small enough to begin, concrete enough to finish.

A calm audio coach

Gentle spoken prompts at moments you choose. Encouragement for starting, quiet company while you work, and a kind voice when you drift.

Returning after distraction

Drifting is normal; Sparkline is built around the comeback. Noticing you wandered is treated as a win, not a failure.

Reflection

A one-minute close to each session that turns effort into evidence — what you intended, what happened, what you'd tell yourself next time.

Momentum, not streaks

Progress views that honour consistency and recovery rather than unbroken chains. Missing a day bends the line; it doesn't break you.

Personalisation

The coach learns how you like to be encouraged — more structure or more space, more warmth or more brevity.

Why it exists

It began as a personal question

Sparkline started with something I kept noticing in my own work: the days that went badly rarely failed for lack of a plan. They failed at the emotional edges — the reluctant start, the spiralling detour, the session that ended without any sense of what it meant.

So the question became: what would a productivity tool feel like if it helped people relate to effort with more patience, encouragement, and self-awareness? Sparkline is my working answer — built slowly, tested honestly, and documented in the logbook as it evolves.
